Explore Dunn's Creek - Day Tour
Tucked away in a rarely visited corner of the Hunter Wetlands National Park visitors will find Dunn's Creek, if you know where to look that is...
Our day begins with an introductory kayak lesson and then we catch a lift with the inbound tide into the national park. As you explore the beautiful mangrove forest and meander through the islands, our guide will explain some of the ecological importance of the forest and wildlife found in this area.
Glenn combines the stories of a lifetime spent on the ocean with historical explanations of the Hunter River and the role it has played in the development of modern Australia and also in his own life.
We will step ashore and enjoy a fabulous refreshment break before taking a short walk along the island to view the military ruins. Lying at rest in the waters off Sandy Island are the remains of an old shipwreck, reflecting the long maritime history of the Hunter River.
From our island stopover we soon paddle off to continue the adventure in Dunn's Creek. As you paddle along exploring this pristine waterway it really is hard to imagine you are so close to a major city. Most day's it is possible to see White Bellied Sea Eagle's in the Mangrove canopy, or flying overhead in search of prey. The National Park is an important stopover for many migrating birds with more than 30 known varieties documented.
